Rift in Iran over negotiating team’s makeup and mandate - Iran International
- According to Iran International, senior Iranian officials are at odds over the composition and authority of the delegation that will meet with the US in Islamabad to discuss.
- The IRGC commander-in-chief, Ahmad Vahidi, is attempting to limit the authority of Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during the discussions.
- Vahidi has also pushed for the inclusion of Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, in the negotiating team, which current members oppose since they believe he lacks strategic negotiation experience.
- At the same time, Vahidi and the commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force have emphasized that the delegation should avoid discussing Iran's missile program.
